As I’ve probably stated many times previously, I don’t watch a great deal of television or cinema. The last time I went to a cinema was on my 50th and that’s getting on for ten years ago now.
Most of the films I rate were what I viewed in my childhood and a number were influenced by what my parents liked to watch. As a sixties child a lot of those films were “War” based films as the 2nd World war had only ceased some 19 yrs before my arrival on the scene.
So here are 10 films (I may struggle to get that many) that feature in my top ten but in no particular order:

Quite a range I’d say, and pretty much nothing falling within the last 20 years or so reflecting the fall from personal grace of this entertainment medium, in my personal point of view.
Now… make that a question about radio and I can go on, and on, and on….you get it 😂
I must admit my wife and I have been loyal supporters of the dog breed of “Bichon-frise”, for the last 35 years, basically all of our married life. My wife and I first came across this beautiful breed of dog when we were first holidaying in Devonshire way back in the late 80s early 90s.

We were living in a small one bedroomed flat, and as a result of not being able to have children, we were looking at another option of being able to give love and attention to an animal that required our unwavering care. And to top it all this breed did not moult, it was kind of hypo allergenic and that was good as the last thing you want in a small home are loads of dog hairs, oh, and it would also be beneficial to my asthmatic conditions. It’s true to saywe really did our homework before getting our first dog.

We’ve had three of this breed accompanying us throughout our married life, Muffin, Digger and Alfie and they were all such beautiful little souls with such wonderful characteristics, each one different from each other but such wonderful company. We lost Alf about 11 months back due to illness and we still miss him so much, it’s raw. Is there a cure for a broken heart 💔
So in theory we are very much dog people. However….
When we purchased our current home we also inherited a Feral cat that we have named “Tabs”. Tabs was in all the original sale pictures but no one owned her, we brought her property and she still lives out there and guards it with an intensity that only ferals have. We were worried about how she’d get on with Alf, but he was so soft that they developed a lovely friendship, they got on so well.

Tabs remains to this day, she still patrols her domain and allows us to live there. She’s fed and watered daily and is a major feature of our home now. We love her and remain very supportive of her, and are always worried for her welfare when she disappears for a day or two. But she knows we will always feed her so she is never gone long.
So we are also cat people. But for me it’s at a distance…as I’m allergic to them.
It doesn’t matter what you prefer to be honest, they all crave our love and attention and will always give you the same in return unconditionally. They deserve our love and we all become better people for having an animal to care for. It always amazes me how creatures from different species can become so dependent upon each other.
Pity some humans can’t treat those in their own species the same way.
What is your favorite holiday? Why is it your favorite?
For me, there are two places on this planet that I’d go to at the drop of a hat and those two places are southern Cyprus and Iceland.
The two features that both destinations give me are safety and a feeling of being welcomed. I feel safer in these two places than I do in my own home city, and that is quite sad and real in equal proportions.
Akamas peninsular- Cyprus
We’ve been going to Cyprus on a regular basis for pretty much 30yrs now. The sunrises and sunsets are amazing. We avoid the really touristy parts and situate ourselves on the west coast of the island in two areas pretty much untouched by all the madness of modern day tourism. We get on exceptionally well with the locals who have come to know us like “Neighbours “ as we are there that often. We have regularly thought of upping sticks and moving there, but something has always held us back. It is still an option to this day though. Friendlier locals you’d struggle to find anywhere, they are just so welcoming and friendly, and you feel safe to go anywhere and that is most important.
Skogafoss – Iceland
Now Iceland is a relatively new destination for us, we’ve been there three times now and number Four has already been booked. Horrendously expensive but don’t let that put you off, it is such a friendly, welcoming destination, it’s a “New” country that is constantly evolving due to its volcanic and seismic state. It is a fascinating island to witness nature at its most violent, and it is amazing to witness the locals just taking it all in their stride. There is no panic and madness, a calmer bunch of folk you’d struggle to find anywhere else in the world.

A great conversation starter, just like talking about the weather in the UK.
Music is one of those things that finely entwines itself into all our lives. We have happy sounds, sad sounds and everything in between, there are inspirational records, as well as others that take you to a distant place where you can just be a mad, wild, untamed, crazy, dancing freak of nature. Yes it’s fair to say music plays a massive role in our lives and emotions.
However if you are put on the spot and asked to choose two favourites, could you?
I have often mulled over this question through the years and i do really think that i can. As a child of the sixties i have gone through an awful lot of fads and musical genres, all the way through Swing, soul, New Romanticism, Punk, Heavy metal, classical and everything in between. My most influential years were probably the late 70s early 80s when i was starting to form my own choices as i was entering into my teenage years.
These choices by no means reflect my favourite group. That choice was made in the mid to late 80s when American rock group R.E.M came into my life and they remain firmly rooted there to this day. However their music obviously rates highly in my opinion, but neither of my favourite all time records were theirs. For some obscure reason my choices are both extremely middle of the road.
I honestly have heard so much music in my life, as i suspect has anyone else who browses this post, and i always come back to these two choices. So my mind is made up, no swaying, it is and will always be these two:
Doobie Brothers – Listen to the music

What do i like about this record. Just spend some time listening to it, early American rock at its very best, probably 4 Guitars in perfect harmony with an absolutely fantastic rhythm, and a banjo picking around in the background adding to the atmosphere, Just a wonderful happy and upbeat song in my view, it lifts me to play it and reminds me of the hazy days of my childhood. This was 1972 when it was released, i was very young but it was a happy tune, and as a child i think that is one of the things you look for in music, good melody, easy chorus who could ask for more. And it’s stuck with me ever since.
Here’s what the songwriter Tom Johnston said at the time:
“The chord structure of it made me think of something positive, so the lyrics that came out of that were based on this utopian idea that if the leaders of the world got together on some grassy hill somewhere and either smoked enough dope or just sat down and just listened to the music and forgot about all this other bullshit, the world would be a much better place. It was very utopian and very unrealistic (laughs). It seemed like a good idea at the time.”

Though I didn’t even know what dope was at this age I can’t really comment. Though looking back now it seemed like a good idea.
Bellamy brothers – Let your love flow

Another “Brother” named group. This was a crossover record from Country to mainstream and boy was it a successful crossover. 1976 was a fantastic year for me packed with great memories of being with my friends, the heatwave of that year and wonderful times wandering around with my pals just doing stuff. Again it was a record that came along at a good period in my life and has registered itself in that role ever since. Just a really good rhythm, some cracking easy to learn lyrics and a dead easy chorus, packed with loads of rhythmic guitar and passion, what a record.
So, thats it for me, two easy choices that i know will never ever change. I always have these tunes within easy reach on my phone or music player as in times of stress, worry or just when reminiscing, they are chosen and played loud. The world then for a few solitary moments is a whole better place.
What movies or TV series have you watched more than 5 times?
There are a number of movies and tv series that I have watched multiple times over the years, however one from each category really stands out for me.
I have grown up with the James Bond franchise, as have many in my age group, and these films are still watched and enjoyed to this day.
But these are not my favourites. These are my favourites below.
Film wise I absolutely love the old James Stewart classic “The Glenn Miller story” this remains my favourite movie of all time and when it is on, that is my time, sit down, shut out all the noise and enjoy the wonderful story on how he created a unique sound that is still practiced to this day. And just like any good story it abruptly ends with his sad demise. A wonderful film in my eyes.

Secondly a tv series. That goes to the amazing Carl Sagan and his years ahead of its time “Cosmos” series. For a youngster brought up through the space race years there was a hunger for knowledge of our universe, that this series more than catered for. I have this entire series on DVD and it has even been updated from its original issue date in 1980. In 1986 more animations and commentary were added. Sagan passed away in 1996. He was the science teacher we all wished we had at school.

The one I spend the most time on is EBay. It’s where I get most of my stuff to repair. Secondly it’s probably Amazon and from then on there are a Number of smaller sites I take in.
I follow a number of blog sites of people who are kind enough to follow what I do. I check in to all of them regularly to see if anything has changed. I probably check in more when I haven’t seen anything for a while as I’m concerned that I’ve heard nothing, but I’m probably just overthinking it as they’re probably just living busy lives like most people do.
I only post regularly as I use it as a coping mechanism / Journal as stated in the past.
There is a good site where you can see all the cameras on the island of Iceland, all set up to show views of the volcano’s when they kick off, great for planning a trip to see something different.
Beyond that I look at the Leicester football club site occasionally, but to be honest they are not doing it for me this year so I tend to avoid it if possible.

I admire anyone who has artistic talent. However at a push I’d easily rate Bob Ross as my favourite.
Why?
If you were an easily influenced teenager through the eighties, you couldn’t help but see this easygoing extremely pleasant individual on your television screens in the afternoons trying to convince everyone that they had a masterpiece within them.

He wasn’t wrong, I’ve had a few lessons using his technique and I’ve produced a personal masterpiece in every session.
The guy had the ability to pull achievements out of people that they didn’t know they had inside them. He taught that art was for everyone not just the gifted few, and I loved that.

Beyond that my favourite artist is probably Constable, as I loved his detailed countryside landscapes.
But Bobs the man for me. And a local artist called Raymond Riley who taught me Bobs techniques, superb humans in my eyes, and wonderful teachers.

The rest have all been used for something or other, I’m sitting here wondering what in some cases.
I do think that if you reviewed your most used emojis on a monthly basis, it must surely give an insight into how your month is going. I’m sure someone in a very high payed University position is already looking at this information as we speak.
