Sony A7II test pics – Warning Cats!

Now I’m not a Cat person as such and you are not going to find copious amounts of Cat pictures on my pages. However, tonight is different as I required a suitable model to just test the new camera, so here I introduce “Tabs”.

There is a story around Tabs, we purchased our current house about 8 yrs ago and she featured in all the pictures that the estate agents took of the garden. We thought she was the sellers cat but this is not so, she is a Feral soul, and this is in fact her territory and we have moved into it. It’s her property and not ours.

She chases all foxes and other cats from the garden and is an excellent mouser, she had a lovely relationship with our little dog that passed away last year, she likes the hedgehogs and she loves company.

But she will never enter the house, we have all doors wide open and she remains outside, she is more than likely a domestic cat that chose to go feral.

She is fed numerous times a day by us, it’s our way of paying her rent to use her garden. My new camera was purchased as an early present from my lovely wife, and needed a quick test, and Tabs was there in the garden mooching around as she wanted feeding. I therefore just rattled off a few shots to do some basic testing of the camera. I’m really happy with it, but there is still a lot to learn about it.

A trusted and loyal companion

Dogs or cats?

I must admit my wife and I have been loyal supporters of the dog breed of “Bichon-frise”, for the last 35 years, basically all of our married life. My wife and I first came across this beautiful breed of dog when we were first holidaying in Devonshire way back in the late 80s early 90s.

We were living in a small one bedroomed flat, and as a result of not being able to have children, we were looking at another option of being able to give love and attention to an animal that required our unwavering care. And to top it all this breed did not moult, it was kind of hypo allergenic and that was good as the last thing you want in a small home are loads of dog hairs, oh, and it would also be beneficial to my asthmatic conditions. It’s true to say we really did our homework before getting our first dog.

We’ve had three of this breed accompanying us throughout our married life, Muffin, Digger and Alfie and they were all such beautiful little souls with such wonderful characteristics, each one different from each other but such wonderful company. We lost Alf about 11 months back due to illness and we still miss him so much, it’s raw. Is there a cure for a broken heart 💔

So in theory we are very much dog people. However….

When we purchased our current home we also inherited a Feral cat that we have named “Tabs”. Tabs was in all the original sale pictures but no one owned her, we brought her property and she still lives out there and guards it with an intensity that only ferals have. We were worried about how she’d get on with Alf, but he was so soft that they developed a lovely friendship, they got on so well.

Tabs remains to this day, she still patrols her domain and allows us to live there. She’s fed and watered daily and is a major feature of our home now. We love her and remain very supportive of her, and are always worried for her welfare when she disappears for a day or two. But she knows we will always feed her so she is never gone long.

So we are also cat people. But for me it’s at a distance…as I’m allergic to them.

It doesn’t matter what you prefer to be honest, they all crave our love and attention and will always give you the same in return unconditionally. They deserve our love and we all become better people for having an animal to care for. It always amazes me how creatures from different species can become so dependent upon each other.

Pity some humans can’t treat those in their own species the same way.

What animals make the best/worst pets?

I’m going to be quite boring and predictable here, I’m a dog person having had the same breed of dog (Bichon Frise) throughout my married life, about 33 years now. Alf has been our constant companion for the last eleven years and is just an all round super fellow, funny little bundle of joy.

I’ve put Cats here as the worst, not that they are a particularly bad pet, but for me I have a severe allergy to them and their fur, so for me they are not a practical pet to be in my presence if I want to maintain an acceptable level of breathing. I used to have one as a pet as a youngster and that’s how I found out about this allergy.

However there is an aside to this. When we purchased this house a few years ago there was a cat in all the outside photos of the property and we assumed the previous owner had one as a pet. We were very wrong. No one owns this cat known to us as “Tabs”. She is a feral cat that took ownership of this area many years ago and we live on her property. She is not scared of any animal, absolutely loves our Alf as she knows he is a right softy.

This garden is her territory, she chases foxes and any other uninvited visitors to the garden, she is an excellent mouser and will also bring evidence to the back door to prove this, much to the displeasure of the wife. She’s fed regularly by us as a result, and she is always missed if she goes off wandering for a few days as she often does.

So really there is no best or worst here, Im basing it solely on my own selfish “health” problems. She’s a lovely cat, I can’t touch her (she wouldn’t let me anyway) so we have a mutual distant respect for each other. She’s the dogs best friend though and they get on fantastically.

The dog has been through so much with us, helped us through some very tough times just by being a lovely form of stress relief for us. His companionship is without condition and his loyalty is unique. He’s my boy, he deserves nothing but utter love and respect. A true pet lover would understand.
