Don’t fret

One sentence, one special person. You’re already a winner.

If your future self could send you one sentence, what do you hope it would say?

It’s funny that I’m answering this prompt in a present tense, imagining what I’d expect to read as a result of a lifetime of experience and broken expectations.

Taking what I know now into context, the sentence I’d expect to hear is:

“Don’t worry, everything will be alright”

And to be honest, previous experience does lead me to agree somewhat. Going all the way back to my school years (And that was a lifetime ago) we’d worry about exams, back then it was the end of the world, we worried constantly and I even see kids doing the same today, but with the benefit of hindsight I can clearly say, it really doesn’t matter, everything’s ok, it worked out just fine.

If you can step aside from peer pressure, or even better still if your peers can stop applying that pressure in the first place, the world would be a happier place.

Put it like this, the fact you are even here on this planet is a miracle in its self, the chances of your parents even conceiving you are a massive 1 in 400 Trillion.

That makes you a very special person right from the very start.

So don’t fret, you have a right to be here, you have a right of free expression, you have a right to be whatever you wish to be.

You are a winner. “Don’t worry, everything will be alright”

Have a superb day.

Don’t be an…..

If you had to give one life-changing tip, what would it be?

Be nice. Don’t be an Arse.

Have a great day 👍

Burying our heads in the sand

History shouldn’t be cancelled. It should be used as a tool of learning, and ensuring atrocities are not repeated.

If you could erase one trend from history, what would it be?

Easy. That would be the modern trend of trying to erase history and pretending it never happened. I never thought that in my lifetime I’d ever witness people deliberately burying their heads as depicted by old time cartoons.

Let’s erase history

But hey brother, that day is already with us, and it is happening.

It’s true that there are horrific, disgusting dehumanising aspects of history that we would have all preferred not to hear of or witness, and humans are responsible for creating all of those words listed above, throughout the timeline of history. Life is about learning, learning of other’s mistakes and wrong doing and making things better, ensuring such atrocities never occur again.

Yes, we learn from history, we can correct what went wrong, ensure that others learn and do the same, pass the learnings on and ensure we are all aware of the difference between right and wrong. Unfortunately there are a few who are a bit behind us at the moment and need to play catch up. There is always that underbelly of society who just don’t get it, their heads are already well and truly buried.

Don’t erase history. It happened, it can’t be hidden and we should all learn from it. Mankind has erred throughout history, we should learn from those mistakes, and ensure it never happens again.

It’s how a civilised society develops. Erasing what has happened in the past is pure ignorance, and is totally irresponsible.

But for some, it’s just easier to bury their heads. Out of sight, out of mind. That attitude will never work, but they will sure give it a go!

Be careful out there, stay safe 👍

Add a sprinkling of common sense

A prompt from Wordpress that pretty much answers its own question. If only common sense could be a lesson.

Do you think we’re shaped more by our experiences or by who we are?

Experience defines a person and their relative behaviours and beliefs, so the choices in the prompt above are both closely related.

Who you are, how you appear to others is a result of experiences that have shaped you throughout your life.

You live and learn. That’s how it has always been.

Now, if only common sense could be taught, wouldn’t that be nice?

Have a great weekend all.

Owl be back – hoot hoot

I’d want to be an Owl, what a “Hoot” it would be……I’ll get my coat

If you had to be an animal for a week, which one would you be and why?

Great grey owl

I’d probably like to be an Owl, just like the big fellah “Elvis” in the picture above. A great grey owl I had the pleasure of meeting a few weeks ago on a falconry day that was purchased for me as a birthday gift.

Sleep all day (that would be nice 👌) awake all night (pretty much standard for me) and exceptionally good hearing (another sense that I am truly blessed with, just as well as everyone else in the family are as deaf as posts 😂)

Silent hunters, lone operators and super senses, they are just a wonderful creation to set your eyes upon.

Who wouldn’t want to be an Owl.

Have a “Hoot” of a day 👍

Oi! Nosey

Sometimes Wordpress drop some really banal prompts to answer. Most I don’t bother with, I think you can see I’m now a tad miffed by it all. Simple answers are all that’s needed. No explanation necessary.

What’s one habit that has improved your life the most?

Easy really and quite simple.

Minding my own business

Stay safe. Don’t be nosey 👍

Don’t get old

Try not to get old, or age too quickly

What’s the best advice you’d give to someone younger than you?

Don’t get old.

Or at the very least, in your younger years try your best to delay ageing. I wish I’d done that. No turning back now, it’s a regret.

And you become bitter and twisted..

It’s draining, physically and mentally.

Have a good day

Rubiks bloody cube

Apparently the puzzle can be completed in 18 moves. Well, can it?

I remember this fad coming into school the first time around. I never had one, never particularly wanted one either, probably as my attention span was never that concentrated and I’d probably have ended up throwing it at a wall.

However, as I get older my attention span has expanded slightly, but not to the point that I actually want one. But I have been triggered by a small video I’m seeing online apparently showing how to solve a Rubik’s cube in 18 moves!

But does it really work?

Courtesy of t’internet

If anyone out there actually has one I’d be interested to know your thoughts. Apparently if you repeat the moves shown in the photo above, eighteen times you will have the answer.

But does it work? I’m curious.

Have a (not too) puzzling day 👍

Mind your own business

Oi you! Yes you! Just mind your own business!

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?

I think I already posses that skill.

And that skill is:

Just minding my own business.

In life we have control over just two things, our thoughts and our own actions. You can’t control whatever anyone else thinks or does, so why waste your time in trying!

Just mind your own business. That’s work a plenty in many cases.

Have a super day👍

Humming bird, Hawkmoth

Plant it, and they will come. This is proof of just how true that is.

I wrote a short while back about installing a presentable garden in our new home that is just a standard, blank and bland, new build stamp of grass, here in the East Midlands: Making a work of art

The build goes on, however today I had a very welcome and unexpected visitor. I have today visited a local nursery to purchase some plants for the garden. As always I always go for the plants that the pollinators love, so I stocked up with plenty of Verbena, Salvia and Hebe that they all appear to gravitate towards. Whilst placing them in the garden, still in their pots to see what would be best in various positions, the pollinators started to arrive. However there was a special visitor on one of those plants. Look at the little fellah in the video below.

Humming bird hawk moth

You can easily tell them apart from other moths by their distinct behavior and appearance:

  • The Hover: They beat their wings up to 70 times per second, creating a distinct, audible “humming” sound while remaining completely stationary in mid-air.
  • The Tongue: They extend an incredibly long, tube-like tongue (called a proboscis) to drink nectar deeply from flowers without ever landing.
  • Coloration: They have greyish-brown forewings, bright orange-brown hindwings (highly visible in flight), and a black-and-white chequered body.
  • Size: They are medium-to-large moths with a wingspan of 50–58mm.

And it’s the first one I’ve seen personally for around five years.

Made my day this has. Remember that quote from the Kevin Costner film, Field of dreams? “If you build it, he will come.”

Well I use the same quote for wildlife in the garden, slightly amended though, “If you plant it, they will come.”

And they most certainly do. Here’s the proof.

Have a great day, and stay safe.
